FAQs
• What will I gain from a yoga retreat?
The noun 'retreat' means a place where you can go to be alone, or to get away from the demands of everyday life. Retreats offer:
• rejuvenation • deep rest and relaxation • a chance to connect with other like-minded people – retreats attract people with similar interests and outlooks • active participation – real growth happens by actually 'doing' the practices • a safe environment in which to learn and try out new ways of being • time away from all the distractions and worries of your everyday living with a focus of self-care, nature and your environment • the space to focus on recovery from an illness or burnout – during a retreat you take plenty of rest; sleep is encouraged and you wake with the sound of songbirds (not an alarm) • lasting transformation – all the self-care practices you learn you will be able to take home with you. • How much yoga experience do I need?
All yoga and meditation sessions are suitable for all levels of experience, from beginners to intermediate level. While it is good to have an idea of the basic yoga postures, the practices I teach are designed so that you can participate at your own level of fitness and experience.
Please inform us of any injuries or health issues you have and/or medication you are taking. A health form will be sent out to you prior to your retreat. • What is noble silence?
The use of silence during yoga and meditation retreats is very common, and traditionally includes refraining from writing, reading and making eye contact as well. On our weekend retreats the periods of silence are relatively short, typically from bedtime until mid morning or lunchtime the following day. The silence is intended to be nourishing, offering the chance to go deeper within, practice awareness, reflect and listen to your body.

• What do I need to bring?
Wear comfortable clothing so that you can relax and move freely – layers are good for the changeable New Zealand climate. Thermals is are recommended during the cooler months. Bring a swimsuit for a hot swim, sauna, or spa-time. You should bring your own toiletries and feel free to bring your own yoga mat, block and strap, although the studio is fully equipped. A full packing checklist will be sent in your retreat information pack.
• What kind of food will I be eating?
Please let us know if you have any food allergies or particular dietary needs.
The seasonal food we serve is full of healing nutrients and prepared with love by passionate chefs. Each retreat menu will reflect the changing seasons. The chef plans our menu, taking into consideration any dietary requirements of our guests. In general, our food is wheat-free, dairy-free and devoid of refined sugar. Organic coffee, black tea herbal teas, water, kombucha and smoothies will be offered. • Can I bring beverages and food snacks with me?
Yes you may bring additional snacks if they are part of your special food requirements, but no alcohol will be consumed.
• Can I use my mobile phone or other electronc devices during my retreat?
It is recommended to detach from all electronic devices so that you can gain the most from your retreat. However, there is an Internet service, although it's very slow.
• Am I allowed to read or write during my retreat?
Yes it is acceptable to read motivational books, for spiritual growth. We do suggest that you refrain from reading during noble silence. There will be a journaling session as part of the retreat where you will be encouraged to write down your thoughts, and reflect on your journey of self-discovery.
